DampRid Moisture Absorbers work in three phases:
Crystals harden as they gather moisture. They are designed to absorb excess moisture from air. When dampness collects inside the crystal, it becomes a solid mass. This process takes place within minutes. Then the crystals begin to dissolve and liquid starts dripping out of the bottom chamber. It may take several days before water drips out of the unit. You can replace the crystals once they have been fully dissolved.
As the crystals dissolve, they release their stored moisture back into the atmosphere. The crystals continue to absorb moisture until all of them have dissolved.
When you need to remove excess moisture from your home, office, or vehicle, simply add DampRid to the area where you want to eliminate moisture. In about 30 minutes, the crystals will start absorbing moisture. As more moisture enters the crystals, they become saturated with moisture. Once the crystals are completely saturated, they will no longer absorb any additional moisture.
When you’re ready to stop using DampRid, simply empty the container and dispose of it properly.
What is Calcium Chloride?
Calcium chloride is a chemical compound composed of calcium and chlorine atoms. It is commonly known as CaCl2, or just plain old table salt. It is a white crystalline solid that dissolves readily in water. When dissolved into water, it forms a solution called brine. Brines are solutions containing salts. They are found in nature, and are often used to preserve foods.
CaCl2 is one of the most common types of salt used in industry. In fact, it is the second most widely produced salt in the world. There are about 2 million tons of CaCl2 produced annually. It is used primarily as a desiccant, a drying agent. It is added to absorb the moisture out of gases, liquids, and solids.
How Does DampRid Work?
DampRid works by absorbing humidity from the air and releasing it into the bottom of a water bottle. This process takes place over several hours. When you put the bottle in your home, the bottom fills up quickly because there are many places where the air can enter. Once the bottle is full, you just take it out and dump the contents into another container. You can use the same bottle again and again.
Is DampRid Safe?
The DampRid is a product that helps dry out damp carpeting and upholstery quickly and effectively. It works like a dehumidifier, absorbing moisture into the material. But unlike traditional dehumidifiers, the DampRid doesn’t emit heat. This makes it safe to use around kids and pets.
While most people can safely use DAMP RID without an issue, it is important to tell you there are some things you should know about it. First off, it is recommended you don’t use this in homes with animals or young children because it contains sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide is a chemical compound that can irritate the eyes, nose, throat, lungs, and skin. If you do come in contact with it, wash immediately with soap and water.
Second, the DampRids are non-toxic, but it is important to note that calcium chloride can cause a mild skin irritation if you come into contact with it. So while it says non-toxin, calcium chloride can cause minor skin irritation if used near sensitive areas such as the face, neck, hands, feet, etc.
Third, while the DampRid does absorb moisture, it cannot remove mold spores. For that reason, it is best to clean the area thoroughly prior to applying the DampRid.
Our Recommendation to Prevent Mould
Mould spores are everywhere. They grow in damp places like basements, bathrooms, kitchens, garages, sheds, crawl spaces, attics, and even inside walls. When conditions are just right, they can start growing within 24 hours. This is why we recommend installing a dehumidifier in every area where moisture accumulates.
The best way to keep mould away is to eliminate the source of moisture. A dehumidifier does this well. But what about those times when you don’t want to run a dehumidifier? Well, there is another solution.
A product called DampRid is designed specifically to absorb excess humidity in small rooms. We tested one of these units in our office and found that it did a great job of reducing the amount of moisture in the space.
We also noticed that the unit worked very quietly. In fact, we couldn’t hear it running at all. So, while the dehumidifier will definitely help you keep your home dry, the DampRid will make sure you don’t have to listen to it either.
