How rich is Fernando Alonso?

With over 300 starts, 32 GP victories and 2 world championship titles, Fernando Alonso Diaz is one of the most successful F1 drivers, who ended his career for the time being at the end of 2018. His last engagement (2015-2018) was for the McLaren racing team. Alsonso earned 24.5 million euros per season in his heyday and additional millions from advertising deals (e.g. for the new Fiat 500). For a long time, he was the absolute top earner in Formula 1 , ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel . Overall, he has an estimated fortune of 210 million euros . On November 25, 2018, Alonso ended his Formula 1 career until he returned to the cockpit for the Alpine racing team in 2021, where hesalary of 15 million euros . The racing driver is also very committed to youngsters and runs his own go-kart track near Oviedo.

Fernando Alonso The career: On the road to success from the start

Alonso, born in 1981 in the Spanish province of Asturias, came into contact with karting as a small child, where he already impressed with his talent. It is thanks to his father that he was interested in motorsport at all, although he was never a professional racing driver, but merely regarded karting as a hobby. This passion was also to be found in his son Fernando, whereas it was manifested in him much more than in the senior. He quickly drove his way up to Formula 3000, which at that time was still the direct springboard to Formula 1 for many young talents and where he was discovered in 2000 by the legendary team boss Flavio Briatore. In the following year, this not only got him a place with the (then unsuccessful) F1 Team Minardi, but also in the longer term with Renault F1, where Alonso was the first Spaniard to win the world championship in 2005 and 2006.

After internal problems within the team (technical failures, problems of the team boss, realignment of the team), Alonso first switched to McLaren Mercedes in 2007, then to Scuderia Ferrari , where he replaced Kimi Raikkonen prematurely, who, however, continued to be paid for one season. Although Alonso was able to clearly dominate his teammate Felipe Massa in all seasons from then on, he was only vice world champion in 2010, 2012 and 2013 because the technical package of the Reds could not stand up to the RedBull Racing team in the long term. With a salary of around €20 million, he earned around twice as much as his teammate Räikkönen.

From 2015 Alonso was back at McLaren and thus prematurely terminated his contract with Ferrari. Alonso’s successor at Ferrari was the German Sebastian Vettel. The Spaniard ended his Formula 1 career at the end of the 2018 season.

The biggest successes of Fernando Alonso

Although the connoisseur immediately thinks of the two world championships won in 2005 and 2006, Alonso’s time at Minardi is also part of it. Because without the time at Minardi, he would not have been able to earn the great respect he has from all drivers and teams in the F1 world. Although Minardi always ranked at the back in Formula 1 in his time, Alonso managed to outperform 5 cars in Japan in 2001 and finished 11th. This race is considered by those in the know to be one of his strongest races of his F1 career and prompted Briatore to take him to Renault F1 where he was in a far more competitive car.

More Achievements of Fernando Alonso:

  • first Spaniard to win an F1 Grand Prix
  • first Spaniard to win an F1 World Championship
  • World Champion 2005 and 2006
  • Vice World Champion 2010, 2012, 2013

Fernando Alonso’s property

With a former  annual income of over €40 million , you can of course afford a magnificent property. However, it is nice when you also think of your parents. Alonso, who was born in the Spanish city of Oviedo, did not originally come from a wealthy background. Aware of the support he had received from his parents and above all from his father when it came to motorsport, he bought the two of them a house in his native town.

Incidentally, this also connects him with his teammate  Jenson Button , who bought his parents a house in French Villefranche (between Nice and Monaco). In addition, he bought a quiet property for himself, which, for the sake of privacy, is not in the city of his birth, but in close proximity to it. Since he has often been in the Swiss city of Lugano , where the Scuderia Ferrari F1 headquarters are located, since 2010, he also bought a home there during his time with the Reds so that he did not have to constantly commute between Spain and Switzerland.
