Due to his flamboyant wrist work during his batting, VVS Laxman was nicknamed Very Very Special Laxman. Throughout his career, he terrorized every opponent. A Brahman Hyderabadi who hails from the 1 November 1974 birth date, Laxman hails from a family of Brahmans. Interestingly, Laxman was also an excellent student, but the 1983 World Cup victory changed everything for him.
It was Laxman’s parents’ dream for him to pursue a medical career, but his love for cricket overtook their dreams. At the time of his under-19 debut in 1994, he was a lower-order batsman. He scored fifty in the 2nd innings of his debut match for the Indian National team in 1996 because of his prolific domestic career.
As part of this article, we will look at this very special man’s life off the field as well as his cricketing journey. In addition to being a commentator and the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad after his retirement, Laxman is now the head of the National Cricket Academy and coach of the Indian A team.
Cricket has been VVS Laxman’s main source of income for most of his career. At some point in his career, he also became the face of national brands such as Pepsi. Commentator, mentor, and member of Cricket Advisory Committee, he makes a significant portion of his net worth. His current net worth is estimated at around 100 crores.
In 1996, Laxman made his test debut against South Africa and played well in the first innings, but he failed miserably in the second innings. Laxman’s confidence nearly crumbled when he was dropped eventually. This phase is considered by him to be the lowest point of his career. The former Indian cricketer returned to the domestic scene, smashing every Ranji Trophy record, including the most runs scored in a single season.
In 1999, he returned to the Indian batting lineup after being in and out of the team since 2000. There is no doubt that his innings at Kolkata in 2001 is one of the greatest Test innings of all time as he grabbed chances with both hands. Despite initial failures, Laxman is now recognized as one of Indian cricket’s greatest players.
Laxman has never tasted success in the white-ball format, which he sees as his only setback. Laxman retired from playing cricket in 2012, but he has been involved with cricket administration since then. As well as being part of the Cricket Advisory Committee, he is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy.
