Early life
Vanna Marie Rosich was raised in the small town of Conway, South Carolina, where she attended high school. She graduated from Conway High School in 1975. In 1976, she began attending the University of South Carolina, where she majored in journalism. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1978.
In 1982, she married David Lee Smith, whom she had met while working as a reporter for WBTW-TV in Beaufort, South Carolina; he worked there part-time as a cameraman. They divorced in 1985.
