From music manager to politician
Between 1982 and 1985 Roth was the manager of the band Ton Steine Scherben around singer Rio Reiser. She then became press spokeswoman for the Greens in the Bundestag. In 1989 she moved into the European Parliament for the party and was chairwoman of the parliamentary group there from 1994 to 1998. In 1998 she was elected to the Bundestag for the first time, where she chaired the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid.
